Lanzarote music going underground again

January 30, 2009

Jameos del AquaOne of the most sights in Lanzarote is the Jameos del Aqua, the stunning series of volcanic tubes and caves in the north at el Malpais de la Coruna. Apart from the underground cave with its pool, the above ground centre, built by Ceasar Manrique, is a fitting tribute to the founding father of modern Lanzarote. Now the underground auditorium, worn out of the volcanic rock, is about to open to the public again for concerts in a unique setting.

The natural theatre has been closed since 2001 when rock falls made it unsafe but the Canarian government tourism department has invested 5.5 million euros to restotr it to its former glory. One of the first events scheduled for the auditorium is the screening of the new Penelope Cruz film ”The Broken Embraces” which was filmed in Lanzarote at the end of last year.

In future there will be musical performances that can make full use of the unique acoustics of this cave. As an arts venue, there can be no better setting, and it evokes much of the history and culture of Lanzarote. Sands Beach Resort Hotel reception will be happy to book one of several island tours that will include Jameos del Aqua, it’s all part of the service at this family friendly beachfront hotel.

CONGRATULATIONS TO LUCY WHO WON OUR YOUTUBE VIDEO COMPETITION, SHE WILL NOW ENJOY HER FREE HOLIDAY HERE AT SANDS BEACH IN LANZAROTE.

It’s not just a happy new year for Lucy Pryor, more like happy returns for the graphic design student from Surrey. Lucy has rocked her way to the winners prize of a free weeks half board holiday for 2 at Sands Beach Resort Hotel in our You Tube competition.

We asked for a holiday video that summed up the fun, freedom, and good times that sums up a holiday at Sands Beach Resort Hotel in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote. Lucy was over last June for a week with 9 former school friends, now scattered through several Universities, and she took up the challenge, enjoying every corner of our beachfront hotel and making her own rock video to the sound of Rockstar by Nickelback.

Now engrossed in her studies at Nottingham Trent University, Lucy can look forward to reliving some of her holiday memories and making some exciting new ones later this year. You can see the winning video on You Tube and maybe it will inspire you to make your own fun video, we would love to see them.

Luxury fans head to Lanzarote

January 14, 2009

MSC FantasiaEven if you are on one of the most modern and luxurious cruise liners in the world, it would be a crime to miss the chance to see the wonders of Lanzarote. The new MSC Fantasia popped into Arrecife, the capital city and main port last week to give its 4,000 passengers the chance to enjoy this family holiday island.

Arrecife is barely 20 minutes from Costa Teguise, home to Sands Beach Resort Hotel, and always worth a visit for its vibrant atmosphere and mix of traditional battlements and and a modern marina. Fantasia is a floating city at 333 metres long, 67 metres high and 38 metres wide. As well as being packed with passengers, it is home to 1,325 crew, and the pampering goes on 24 hours a day. The liner has tennis courts, cinemas, pools and even a grand prix simulator.

However even all these mod cons struggle to compete with the natural beauty of Lanzarote and its volcanic landscape, no doubt many of the passengers will be back for a longer look.

Some 625 collection points were set up across the island for the public and business’s to deposit their used glass, and the response underlined the need for this service. in total 2,700,000 kilos of glass was collected, top of the areas was Tias with 79,040 kilos, Yaiza weighed in with 67,060 and Teguise came third with 66,800.
