From November it will be even easier for sunshine seekers in the north of England to discover the delights of Lanzarote. Easyjet are launching a new regular service from Liverpools John Lennon Airport (JLA) to Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. The flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, in addition to the companies existing route from London Luton.

That’s good news for families looking for a beachfront holiday, Sands Beach Resort Hotel in Costa Teguise is just a 20 minute drive from the airport, and staff are looking forward to adding new friends to their hotel. Due to its popularity with British holiday makers, Lanzarote is used to pulling out all the stops to ensure that the Brits keep returning year after year.

Easyjet are excited about the new flights, Carly Brear, their UK commercial manager said “I have every faith that this route will be extremely popular with our loyal North West customer base.” The new arrivals will find Lanzarote very welcoming, and Sands Beach Resort Hotel has plenty to offer from 6 plaza pools to restaurants and bars and a sea water lagoon.

Windsurf World Cup, back at its Costa Teguise home

Sands LobbyThe cream of the Professional Windsurf Association are once again gathered in Costa Teguise for the start of the 2009 Freestlye World Cup for men and women. Sands Beach Resort Hotel is pleased to welcome back its many sporting friends, they call Sands their Lanzarote home, as it holds the big press conferences and supports the World Cup in a number of practical ways.

The wave taming action runs from June 29 to July 4 and has drawn competitors from around the globe, as well as the worlds sporting media. Freestyle is at the cutting edge of the sport and every year new moves and tricks join the competitors armoury as they compete for big prize money, 45,000 euros for the male champion. Jose “Gollito” Estredo holds the mens crown, but he faces tough competition from many rising stars including local favourite Antxon Otaequi.

The womens field is just as tough, Sarah Quita Offringa from the Windward Islands will try to hold on to her title, among her chasing pack is another local star, Daida Ruano Morena. The whole event is not just about the competition, but also a vibrant social scene that draws in the residents and visitors of Costa Teguise. Sands Beach Resort Hotel has taken the World Cup to its heart and will use it promote the many sporting activities that are on offer at the resort.

Warm seas, cool jazz, in Lanzarote

TeguiseAfter a hot day on the Costa Teguise beachfront or relaxing around the 6 pools at Sands Beach Resort Hotel, how about chilling out to some top live FREE jazz. This weekend, July 3 and 4, the 18th annual festival, Canarias Jazz Y Mas comes to Lanzarote with an international line up.

On Friday 3 July, the ancient former capital city of Teguise is the venue from 9pm at the Casco Historico, with Icelandic jazz funk group Mezzoforte leading the way. Also on the bill are Okou,a French based duo, and local favourite Diego Barber. The next night the action moves to San Bartolome and the Teatro Municipal, again from 9pm. The stars this time are the Patrick Kraus Quartet and Diego Barber.

FREE live music is a regular feature of Lanzarote life, most big events involve music, and when the nights are as warm and pleasant as those in the Canary Islands, it’s a great way to spend an evening.
