All aboard the Arrecife train

December 4, 2009

It’s a novel way to get around, but gives a slow and relaxed view of Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. The new tourist train is underfoing a trial run to see how popular it proves with locals and tourists in the historic seafront city.

The train has three carriages and can carry 70 passengers at a time, the trip starts from the car park at Charco de San Gines and chugs its way along the Avenida Maritima, where you can see the old fortress jutting out into the sea. It will also head inland and stop near the main bus station and the big shopping street of Calle Real.

For now it is a 15 day experiment but if it is popular, it could become a regular attraction in the capital of Lanzarote.
