New concert hall will draw talent to Lanzarote
Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, just 20 minutes away from Costa Teguise and Sands Beach Resort Hotel, has retained its Canarian heart but has developed into a modern and vibrant city. The new marina and the surrounding area, add a touch of class to the water front, and now the city is to get a new concert and congress hall.
The 15,000 square metre Palicio de Congresos, will begin construction this year with a completion date of 2013. A competition was held to find a winning team for the project and Spanish architect, Carlos Morales, will work with renowned Danish firm, Henning Larsen Architects. The company won the contract, thanks in no small part to their track record, they built the Operaen in Copenhagen, are currently building the national concert hall of Iceland in Rejkavik, and are designing Ireland’s new national concert hall for Dublin.
Design Director, Louis Becker, has spoken proudly of the fusion of old and new in Lanzarote. ” The building will be a cultural fixed point on Lanzarote. It has all the atmosphere of the island, you can feel Lanzarote’s magnificent scenery, the volcanoes, the lava, the sea and the sky.”
The new arrival will help to lure top international artists to Lanzarote. coupled with the auditoriums in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, and Santa Cruz, Tenerife, it will make it more viable for performers to make the long diversion to the Canary Islands, from their major European tours.
