Nico does Sands proud in Hawaii Ironman
October 27, 2009

To compete in any Ironman event takes a special sort of dedication, to make it through all 22 of the years events to make the World Championship in Hawaii, is an amazing feat.
Nicolas Ward, Nico to his many friends, proudly wore his Sands Beach Resort Hotel sponsorship badges as he pushed himself through last weeks big final event in Kona, Hawaii. Just imagine a stamina sapping 3.8 km swim, 180 kms cycling and finally 42.2 kms running, Nico did well to finish 77th among the vast field of competitors.
Ironman was originally devised by a group of US Navy Seals as the ultimate test of mind and body strength, and is now a world wide sporting success story. Lanzarote is proud to host it’s own round each year at Puerto del Carmen, a great spectacle for those supporting the athletes and enjoying the round of parties that go with the event.
Lanzarote is the perfect setting for such a challenge, it is rugged and hot and guaranteed to test even the most hardened competitor. Of course for those lucky ones merely watching, it is the usual paradise with great weather and stunning scenery.
