Top stars surf into Sands Beach Resort

Families return again and again to Sands Beach Resort Hotel in Costa Teguise, but they are not the only people to appreciate the wonderful weather, sea and beaches. Another international surfing competition has just been held in Lanzarote, and they picked Sands for their media launch and barbecue evening.
The Islas Canarias Santa Pro 2009, featuring the Six Stars Prime Event, is the last major competition on the international circuit for 2009, so there was intense interest surfers and officials gathered. Pictured are (left to right) Councillor of sport for the Cabildo of Lanzarote, surfers Patrick Beven and José María Cabrera, Councillor of Tourism for the Gobierno of the Canarias Rita Martín, the mayor of Teguise Pedro Hernandez and Director of Sands Beach Resort Juan Carlos Albuixech.
All major countries were represented with Clay Marzo leading the way for North America, Patick Beven for France and Jonathan Gonzalez for the Canary Islands. The action took place on Playa de San Juan in Famara, and with 145,000 dollars up for grabs as prize money, the competition was sharp.
As the frantic media activity went on, it was business as usual for the lucky holiday makers, they continued to splash in the pools, enjoy top food and soak up the beachfront setting.
